A letter from our president
On behalf of Chi Omega Nu Beta, welcome to our chapter! My name is Kathryn Scoggins, and I am honored to be serving as president of our chapter at the University of Alabama. Through our website, I hope that you will be able to learn more about us and all that makes Chi Omega home to so many incredible women.
When I came to the University of Alabama, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. As soon as I walked into Chi Omega, I was in awe of the women that were surrounding me, and I immediately knew that these were the women I wanted to emulate at the end of my four years at the Capstone. These women have loved me on my best days and even on the days that were a little more challenging. Most importantly, the women in Chi Omega have encouraged me to grow in ways I never thought imaginable. The relationships I have made with them will last a lifetime, and I can proudly say that they are some of my biggest role models.
Each member of Chi Omega Nu Beta brings something different to our chapter. Our members are involved in many organizations such as the Anderson Society, Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Canned Food Drive, the Blackburn Institute, Capstone Men and Women, Chabad, Mortar Board, Reformed University Fellowship, Student Government Association, The XXXI, University of Alabama Dance Marathon, University Fellows, and Young Life to name a few. Chi Omegas are consistently encouraging each other to become the best versions of themselves. Due to our members’ dedication to our university and the Tuscaloosa community, several of our alumnae have received many premier awards, the highest honors at the University of Alabama. Regardless of where you choose to find your place on campus, you can go with confidence that a Chi Omega is there with you, too.
What inspires me most about our chapter is not only the involvement our incredible members have on campus, but also their heart for service. Each of our members continually puts “character before appearances,” as our symphony reminds us, by working diligently to give back to the surrounding community. Whether it is raising over $84,294 in 2021 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, visiting the Tuscaloosa Boys and Girls club to serve as mentors to children in Tuscaloosa, or by supporting other philanthropies across campus, giving back is something we value at Chi Omega, and I could not be more proud to call these women my sisters.
Sisterhood is a cornerstone of our home. My first time walking through the front doors of Chi Omega, I was in awe of how supportive, accepting, and loving everyone was. What was even more exciting was that the fun, spirited atmosphere was always present. Each day, there was always something different happening around Chi Omega and something to anticipate. Whether it is dance parties in the dining room, movie nights in the informal, cookie decorating, study sessions, or a social event with our sisters, the love we have for each other and for our chapter is genuine and I am blessed to be a part of this sisterhood.
As Chi Omega begins our 100th year at The University of Alabama, we are excited for what this year has to offer. I am humbled to serve alongside our amazing Executive Board and Cardinal Cabinet, and I know that this year will be the best one yet. Welcome to Chi Omega Nu Beta, and I can’t wait for you to see for yourself what makes Chi Omega so special!
XOXO,
Kathryn Scoggins

CHI OMEGA SYMPHONY
"To live constantly above snobbery of word or deed;
to place scholarship before social obligations and character before appearances;
to be in the best sense, democratic rather than "exclusive" and lovable rather than "popular";
to work earnestly, to speak kindly, to act sincerely, to choose thoughtfully, that course which occasion and conscience demand;
to be womanly always; to be discouraged never;
in a word, to be loyal under any and all circumstances to my Fraternity and her highest teachings, and to have her welfare ever at heart, that she may be a symphony of high purpose and helpfulness in which there is no discordant note."
-Ethel Switzer Howard, Xi Chapter, 1904

"I knew from the moment I walked into Chi Omega that I was going to go Chi O! I felt so loved every time I went during rush and I have met so many amazing people in the few months that I’ve been here."

"My favorite thing about Chi O is our variety. Each girl is so different from one another, and I love how everyone is in constant celebration of each other’s uniqueness. Even after bid day, I have continued to feel all the love and support from this group of girls. Our uplifting and welcoming environment reassures me I made the right choice."

“The best part of being a Chi O is the way I am constantly uplifted by my sisters. We are a place that encourages differences and meets every girl where she is. If I’m having a bad day, I know I can walk into Chi O and be instantly uplifted, and if I’m having the best day ever, I know my sisters will be ready to celebrate with me. We truly are each other’s greatest cheerleaders; at Chi O, sisterhood means friendship and camaraderie.”

"While going through recruitment, I found myself in awe of the way Chi Omega women acted with joy, kindness, and poise while still remaining lighthearted and outgoing. This dynamic that I so dearly love has been evident in the house since I joined and I continue to be inspired everyday by my sisters! I am forever indebted to Chi O for the love, friendship, opportunity and encouragement that I have found in this house. What we have in Chi Omega is so unique and I would choose wisely over and over again!
